WHAT IS PHONOLOGY?

The chapter 3 refers
to phonology as the study of the sound feautres
used in language to communicate meaning. I learnt that the features it
inckludes are: phoneme, word stress, sentence stress and intonation.
Basically, phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in which it helps
to distinguish the difference between words at the moment to pronounce such as sore and shore.
Likewise, the phonemes of language are presented in written symbols called phonemic chart and even it is
divided into vowel / Ə/ and cosonants / b/ sounds, but the consonants
are articulated with voiced and unvoiced sounds. Likewise, stress influences how sentences and group of words are
pronounced and also the intonation
is important within speech to convey meaning.
As teachers, we have to teach
to develop this proficiency
by recognizing the letters and the sounds pupils make when we speak.
That is why we have to help them to practice the basic sounds and how they are used to spell
words, It is meaningful to introduce phonemic symbols, since they need to
understand the variety of accent in the language to articulate properly each
phoneme so that they can be easily understood by others and even they will have
achieved a great deal of communicative competence.

I agree with you, when you said that we as teachers have to help students to recognize different sounds in order they can have a good language production.
